Bus travel across Telangana was badly affected on Thursday as the ongoing strike by RTC employees continued, leaving thousands of commuters struggling to reach their destinations. In several districts, including Adilabad, a large number of buses stayed off the roads, causing long waits at bus stands and crowded alternatives like autos and shared vehicles.
In the Adilabad region alone, hundreds of RTC buses were not operating, forcing regular passengers such as students, office-goers and daily wage workers to look for other transport options. With limited supply and high demand, many private operators reportedly increased fares, adding to commuter frustration.
The strike has been called by RTC employees who are demanding better working conditions, wage-related issues, and long-pending reforms in the transport corporation. Workers say their concerns have been ignored for too long and want firm action rather than promises.
On the other hand, the Telangana government has said it has already addressed most of the issues raised by employees. Officials stated that out of 32 demands, 29 have been accepted in principle, and efforts are being made to implement them.
Transport authorities said only a few key issues remain unresolved, including the demand for merging RTC with the state government and conducting union elections. These matters, they said, require further study and cannot be decided immediately. A committee has been formed to review the remaining demands and suggest a way forward.
Despite this, RTC employees have continued their strike, saying they want written assurance and clear implementation rather than verbal commitments. Union leaders have also warned that the protest may intensify if there is no concrete progress soon.
