The United States military has carried out another round of strikes against Iran, targeting what officials described as military threats near the Strait of Hormuz. The latest action comes amid growing tensions between Washington and Tehran despite ongoing diplomatic efforts to avoid a wider conflict.
According to US officials, American forces shot down four Iranian attack drones that were considered a threat to military and commercial ships operating near the strategic waterway. US Central Command also targeted a drone control station near Bandar Abbas that was reportedly preparing to launch another drone.
Washington described the operation as a “defensive strike” aimed at protecting US troops and maintaining security in the region. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes, and any disruption there can impact global energy supplies and markets.
The fresh strikes came shortly after US President Donald Trump claimed that Iran was “negotiating on fumes,” referring to the country’s economic difficulties and pressure from ongoing sanctions and military tensions. Trump also said the United States would not rush into a deal despite upcoming midterm elections.
Iran has strongly criticised the attacks and accused the US of escalating tensions in the region. Iranian officials warned that continued military action could trigger stronger retaliation.
The latest developments have raised fears of a broader conflict in West Asia, especially after recent exchanges involving drones, missile threats and military operations around the Strait of Hormuz. Several countries in the Gulf region have reportedly increased security measures as tensions continue to rise.
At the same time, diplomatic discussions between US and Iranian representatives are still continuing through mediators. Both sides are reportedly exploring possible agreements linked to sanctions, regional security and nuclear-related issues, although major differences remain unresolved.
