CM Vijay observes Mullivaikkal Day

Tamil Nadu CM Vijay expresses support for global Tamil diaspora and Sri Lankan Tamils on remembrance day

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has expressed solidarity with the global Tamil diaspora on the occasion of Mullivaikkal Remembrance Day, reaffirming his support for the rights and concerns of Sri Lankan Tamils worldwide.

In his message shared on social media, the Chief Minister said the memory of Mullivaikkal should be kept alive and reiterated that Tamil Nadu will continue to stand with Tamils living across the world. His statement was widely circulated among Tamil diaspora groups and political observers.

Mullivaikkal Remembrance Day is observed every year on May 18 by Sri Lankan Tamils and Tamil communities globally. It marks the final phase of the Sri Lankan civil war in 2009, during which thousands of Tamil civilians were killed in the Mullivaikkal region of Sri Lanka’s Mullaitivu district. The day is widely seen as a moment of mourning and remembrance for victims of the conflict.

The Chief Minister’s message also emphasized emotional and cultural ties between Tamil Nadu and the global Tamil diaspora, which spans countries across Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia. Tamil diaspora groups often observe the day through memorial events, candlelight vigils, and public gatherings.

CM Vijay’s remarks come at a time when Tamil political leaders in India continue to highlight issues related to Sri Lankan Tamils, including calls for justice, rehabilitation, and international attention to human rights concerns. His statement aligns with similar expressions made in previous years by Tamil Nadu political figures.
