India is set to witness a spell of intense and varied weather conditions over the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing warnings for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, hailstorms and strong winds across several states. The weather system is expected to affect travel, daily life and transportation in many parts of the country.
Kerala, Mahe and Coastal Karnataka are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, with wet conditions expected to continue through much of the week. Authorities have warned of waterlogging, poor visibility and disruptions to outdoor activities. Popular tourist destinations across Kerala and the Western Ghats could face temporary travel challenges due to persistent rain.
The northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, are also expected to receive heavy rainfall. Similar conditions are forecast for Sikkim and parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Officials have cautioned that heavy showers in hilly regions may trigger landslides, mudslides and localized flooding, affecting road connectivity and travel plans.
Meanwhile, northern India is preparing for severe thunderstorm activity. Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of 60–70 kmph, with gusts potentially touching 80 kmph. Hailstorms are also possible in several northern states, including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and parts of Uttar Pradesh.
Weather experts say these conditions could impact flight schedules, road traffic and outdoor events. Sudden weather changes may particularly affect travellers heading to hill stations and mountain destinations.
Eastern states such as Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha are also expected to receive significant rainfall over the next few days. At the same time, isolated heatwave conditions may continue in parts of Telangana, Vidarbha and Coastal Andhra Pradesh despite the advance of the southwest monsoon.
The IMD has advised residents and travellers to monitor local weather updates, follow official advisories and plan journeys carefully as weather conditions remain highly dynamic across the country.
