Noida international airport begins operations

IndiGo landing marks beginning of passenger operations at Jewar airport

Noida International Airport at Jewar officially began commercial operations on June 15, 2026, marking a major milestone in India’s aviation infrastructure expansion.

The first passenger flight, operated by IndiGo, successfully landed at the new airport, signalling the start of phased flight services from the long-awaited facility. The airport is expected to gradually expand operations as more airlines begin scheduled services in the coming weeks.

Located in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, the Noida International Airport is designed to serve as a major aviation hub for the National Capital Region (NCR). It is expected to ease pressure on Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport by diverting passenger traffic and improving regional connectivity.

Officials said the launch of operations marks the beginning of a carefully planned rollout, with initial flights focusing on select routes while infrastructure and services are scaled up in phases. The airport has been developed with the aim of handling both domestic and international traffic in the future.

The arrival of the first IndiGo flight was welcomed with ceremonial celebrations at the airport, highlighting the importance of the moment for the region’s connectivity and economic development. Airport authorities and government representatives described the start of operations as a step toward transforming Jewar into a key aviation gateway for North India.

The airport project has been one of the most significant infrastructure developments in Uttar Pradesh, with expectations that it will boost trade, tourism, and investment in surrounding areas. Improved air connectivity is also expected to support industrial growth in the region.

With its opening, Noida International Airport joins India’s growing network of modern aviation hubs aimed at meeting rising travel demand.
