PM Modi begins Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand tour

Three-nation visit from July 6-11 aims to deepen strategic partnerships, trade and regional cooperation across Indo-Pacific

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday began a six-day visit to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand, a diplomatic tour aimed at strengthening India’s ties with key partners in the Indo-Pacific region.

The visit, scheduled from July 6 to July 11, will focus on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, defence, maritime security, clean energy, technology and people-to-people exchanges. The three countries are considered important partners in India’s broader Indo-Pacific strategy.

Modi’s first stop will be Indonesia, where he is expected to hold bilateral talks with President Prabowo Subianto. Discussions are likely to centre on enhancing economic cooperation, connectivity, defence collaboration and regional security, while reviewing the progress of existing agreements between the two nations.

PM Modi will then travel to Australia to meet Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The leaders are expected to discuss ways to deepen cooperation under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with particular emphasis on critical minerals, education, renewable energy, defence and the growing Indian diaspora in Australia.

In the final leg of the visit, he will travel to New Zealand for talks with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening trade relations, boosting investment, expanding cooperation in agriculture, digital technology and innovation, and enhancing cultural and educational exchanges.
