From struggling with network issues to pioneering telecom breakthroughs, India’s transformation is striking. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025 in New Delhi today, unveiling the country’s first ‘ Made in India’ 4G technology stack. Now, India is among the only five nations (China, South Korea, Sweden, and Denmark) capable of developing end-to-end telecom technology.
Showcasing India’s transformation into a global manufacturing and digital hub, the Prime Minister cited impressive growth figures: mobile production has jumped 28 times, electronics manufacturing six times, and mobile exports an astounding 127 times. A single global smartphone brand now sources components from 45 Indian suppliers, generating nearly 3.5 lakh direct jobs, he noted.
PM Modi credited policy reforms for the sector’s rapid expansion, highlighting the new Telecommunications Act that replaces colonial-era laws with streamlined approvals, simplified regulations, and faster infrastructure rollout. “In just a few years, India has moved from a 2G-dependent nation to achieving near-universal 5G coverage. Today, we take the next leap with our own indigenous technology.” PM Modi said at the event.
Highlighting the importance of digital access as a fundamental necessity, he said that India now offers some of the world’s lowest mobile data rates, helping bridge the urban-rural digital gap. “Connectivity is not a privilege anymore — it’s a driver of equality and opportunity,” he said.
Encouraging innovators to align with the event’s theme, ‘Innovate to Transform’, he urged Indian tech leaders to spearhead advancements in emerging fields such as 6G, quantum communication, and semiconductor manufacturing.
India Mobile Congress 2025, India’s largest-ever telecom event, has drawn more than 1.5 lakh visitors, 7,000 delegates, and over 400 companies from across the world. The four-day event features live technology demonstrations and discussions on connectivity, cybersecurity, and the evolving digital infrastructure landscape.
As India signals its readiness to shape the next era of global telecom disruption, IMC 2025 stands as both a milestone of achievement and a mission for self-reliance in digital technology.
