OpenAI is offering one year of free access to its ChatGPT Go plan in India starting November 4, as part of a broader push to expand AI adoption in the country.
The plan, previously priced at ₹399 a month, gives users access to GPT-5, OpenAI’s latest model, with faster responses, image generation, file uploads, and extended memory. Both new and existing subscribers are eligible for the offer.
India is now OpenAI’s second-largest market after the US. The company said the free rollout supports its “India-first” strategy and coincides with its DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru, aimed at deepening engagement with developers and users.
Users can activate the offer through the ChatGPT website or Android app. The iOS access will follow soon. While a valid payment method is required, no charge will be made during the free period.
Analysts see the move as a strategic step to build loyalty and accelerate AI use across India’s vast digital ecosystem. Competitors such as Google, Gemini, and Perplexity AI have also launched free or discounted plans in India recently.
The offer opens access to advanced AI tools for students, creators, and professionals, helping them explore new ways to learn, write, and work, at no cost for a year.
