Sheetal Devi breaks barriers in archery

She becomes first Indian para-archer to join able-bodied Asia Cup squad

Eighteen-year-old Sheetal Devi from Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, has made history by qualifying for India’s able-bodied junior archery team for the Asia Cup in Jeddah. Born without arms, Sheetal has overcome immense physical challenges to compete alongside able-bodied athletes, demonstrating extraordinary skill and determination.

At the national trials in Sonepat, Sheetal competed against more than 60 able-bodied archers and finished third overall, securing her place on the team. Her journey has been marked by relentless practice, shooting 250–300 arrows daily, refining her technique, and adapting her posture to meet international rules.

“I have not seen myself as lesser than anybody,” Sheetal said, reflecting her unwavering confidence and focus. Her achievement is a milestone not only in her career but also for Indian sports, breaking barriers and inspiring countless athletes to aim beyond limitations.

Sheetal Devi’s selection is a landmark moment, highlighting resilience, innovation, and the belief that determination can redefine what is possible.
