Veteran producer AVM Saravanan, the long-time head of the iconic AVM Productions, passed away on December 4, 2025, in Chennai, just a day after celebrating his 86th birthday. A stalwart of Tamil cinema, Saravanan’s career spanned decades, and he played a pivotal role in delivering timeless films that became cultural touchstones.
Saravanan’s funeral at AVM Studios in Chennai drew family, colleagues, and admirers who paid their last respects. Leading figures from the industry, including superstar Rajinikanth and actor Suriya, were present, honoring a man celebrated for his kindness, humility, and unwavering support to artists and technicians alike.
Over the years, Saravanan oversaw the production of numerous classics, including “Parasakthi” (1952), “Avvaiyyar” (1953), “Bhaaga Pirivinai” (1959), “Murattu Kaalai” (1980), “Guna” (1991), “Vasool Raja MBBS” (2004), and many more. These films not only achieved commercial success but also showcased storytelling innovation, strong performances, and technical excellence, cementing AVM Productions’ reputation as a benchmark for quality cinema.
Rajinikanth, visibly emotional, remembered Saravanan as a dignified and benevolent figure who had stood by him during challenging times. Political leaders, including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, also expressed condolences, acknowledging Saravanan’s lasting impact on the industry.
