Dream11 shifts to sports entertainment

Dream11 ends cash contests, focuses on livestreams, fan perks, and social engagement

Dream11, India’s top fantasy sports app, has officially exited real-money contests and relaunched as a sports entertainment and tech platform. The move comes after regulatory changes banned cash-based fantasy gaming, which had previously accounted for nearly all of the company’s revenue.

The revamped platform aims to make sports viewing interactive and social. Fans can watch live matches, join creators’ livestreams, react in real time, and chat with other users. Dream11 positions itself as a “second-screen” experience, where following a game becomes a communal activity rather than a solo pursuit.

To drive engagement, Dream11 has onboarded an initial group of 25 creators who host watch-alongs, provide live commentary, and break down key moments. The platform plans to expand this creator network over time, making fan interaction a core part of its strategy.

A new “Moments” feature curates match highlights, fan reactions, and stats, allowing users to catch up on key events quickly. In addition, the app has introduced “DreamBucks,” a virtual reward system. Fans earn DreamBucks through participation and interaction, which can be redeemed for perks such as shoutouts, pinned messages, and other engagement features.

While cash-based fantasy contests have ended, free-to-play games continue. Revenue now comes from ads, sponsorships, and fan engagement instead of cash contests.

The pivot enables Dream11 to retain its 250+ million users while complying with new regulations. Analysts note this reflects a broader trend in sports tech: platforms are evolving from single-purpose apps into interactive, creator-driven ecosystems.

By combining live sports coverage, social features, and creator-led content, Dream11 is positioning itself as a hub for sports fans to connect, engage, and share experiences, keeping the thrill of the game alive even without cash contests.
