Police are investigating the deaths of two people found inside a luxury home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles that is owned by well-known Hollywood director and actor Rob Reiner and wife Michele Singer Reiner. The case is being treated as a suspected homicide, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
Emergency services were called to the house on Chadbourne Avenue on Sunday afternoon, shortly after 3:30 pm. Firefighters arriving at the scene discovered the bodies of a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman inside the home. Both were declared dead at the scene.
Police officials later confirmed that the property is owned by Rob Reiner and his family. Homicide detectives, along with senior LAPD officers, were seen entering and exiting the residence as part of the investigation. The LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division is now handling the case.
At this time, authorities have not released the names of the victims, have not confirmed a motive, and have not announced any arrests. Police also have not said how the two people died, stating that more details will be shared after further examination and forensic testing.
Rob Reiner, aged 78, is a respected name in American cinema. He is best known for directing popular films such as The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Stand by Me, and This Is Spinal Tap. He also became famous earlier in his career as an actor on the television show All in the Family.
A spokesperson close to the family said they are deeply saddened and requested privacy while authorities continue their work. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass described the incident as “tragic” and said the city was shocked by the news.
Neighbors reported a heavy police presence in the quiet residential area throughout the evening. Investigators remain at the scene collecting evidence, and the case is ongoing. Police have urged anyone with information to contact the LAPD as the investigation continues.
