Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt has opened up about a frightening health scare he experienced while lodged in jail, describing it as one of the most difficult moments of his life.
Bhatt was arrested in December 2025 in connection with an alleged cheating case and spent over two months in Udaipur Central Jail before being granted bail in February 2026. During this time, he says he fell seriously ill and struggled to get proper medical help.
Recalling the incident, Bhatt said he developed a high fever and uncontrollable shivering one night inside the barracks. Despite wrapping himself in multiple blankets, his condition did not improve. Fellow inmates tried to help, but there was little medical support available at the time.
The next day, he was taken to the prison hospital, but basic facilities were lacking. There was no thermometer to check his temperature, and he was initially told that he was fine. Bhatt, who suffers from an autoimmune condition, said the fever could have led to serious complications if left untreated.
Although a doctor later recommended that he be shifted to a proper hospital, the transfer was delayed. Bhatt said he waited for more than two days without treatment, as officials were reportedly occupied with other duties.
During this time, he feared for his life. In a moment of desperation, he said he changed his routine—stopping the intake of oil and salt, drinking plenty of water, and relying on prayer to cope with the situation. Over time, his condition slowly improved.
By the time authorities came to take him to a hospital, nearly two weeks later, Bhatt had already started recovering. He described the experience as both physically painful and emotionally overwhelming, saying he genuinely believed he might not survive.
