Chhattisgarh power plant blast claims 14 lives

Many injured. Probe ordered into tragic accident

At least 14 workers lost their lives in a tragic boiler explosion at a power plant in Sakti district, raising fresh concerns over safety at industrial sites.

The incident took place at a plant run by Vedanta Ltd in Singhitarai village. The blast occurred when a boiler pipe carrying high-pressure steam suddenly ruptured, releasing extremely hot steam into the surrounding area.

Workers present at the site had little time to react. Many suffered severe burns as the hot steam spread quickly. Some died on the spot, while others succumbed to their injuries later in hospital. Several more workers remain injured, with a few reported to be in critical condition.

Rescue teams rushed to the plant soon after the explosion. Local authorities, police, and emergency services worked to evacuate workers and move the injured to nearby hospitals. However, the intense heat in the affected area made rescue efforts difficult and slowed operations initially.

Officials have launched an investigation to find out what caused the explosion. Early indications suggest a possible fault or overheating in the boiler system, but a detailed inquiry is underway to confirm the exact reason.

Leaders across the country expressed grief over the loss of lives. PM Narendra Modi and state officials offered condolences to the families of the victims. The government has announced compensation for those affected and assured support for the injured.

The company described the incident as unfortunate and said its immediate focus is on helping the victims and their families. It also stated that it would cooperate fully with authorities during the investigation.
