US, Indian navy rescue 14 Indians near Oman

International naval teams respond quickly to maritime distress signal

A joint rescue operation by the United States Navy and the Indian Navy saved 14 Indian nationals after a traditional vessel they were travelling in began sinking off the coast of Oman.

The incident involved a dhow carrying the Indian crew, which sent a distress signal while in international waters near Oman. The vessel reportedly started taking on water, prompting an urgent emergency response from maritime authorities in the region.

Naval forces from multiple countries coordinated quickly after receiving the distress call. The US Navy confirmed that it responded to the emergency and worked alongside Indian naval units and regional maritime agencies to carry out the rescue operation.

According to officials, all 14 Indians aboard the sinking vessel were safely rescued. They were brought aboard rescue ships and provided immediate medical attention. No fatalities have been reported.

The dhow, a traditional wooden sailing vessel commonly used in the region for trade and transport, was reportedly struggling before it began sinking. The exact cause of the incident has not yet been officially confirmed, but rough sea conditions and possible mechanical failure are being considered.

The coordinated effort highlights growing cooperation between international naval forces in responding to emergencies at sea, particularly in busy shipping routes around the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman.
