Abhishek Banerjee faces ED for school jobs scam

TMC MP questioned over alleged irregularities in primary teacher recruitment case

Abhishek Banerjee, Member of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), appeared before the Enforcement Directorate for questioning in connection with the ongoing investigation into the alleged primary school jobs scam in West Bengal.

The case involves suspected irregularities in the recruitment of primary school teachers, where investigators allege that appointments were influenced through illegal payments and manipulation of the selection process. The probe is part of a wider investigation into corruption in public sector hiring in the state.

Banerjee arrived at the ED office as part of scheduled questioning in the case. Officials are examining financial records, statements of witnesses, and other documentary evidence to trace the flow of funds and identify possible links between individuals under investigation.

The Enforcement Directorate has been probing the recruitment scam for several months, focusing on allegations that jobs were secured in exchange for money. The agency is also coordinating with other investigative bodies that are looking into related aspects of the case.

Banerjee has denied any wrongdoing and has stated that he is fully cooperating with the investigation. His appearance before the ED is part of the ongoing legal process, during which officials are recording statements and gathering additional information.

The case has become a politically sensitive issue in West Bengal, with opposition parties accusing the ruling TMC of large-scale corruption in recruitment processes. The TMC, however, has countered these claims, alleging that central agencies are being used for political targeting.

Authorities said the investigation is still in progress and that further questioning of individuals linked to the case may take place depending on the findings. Officials are also reviewing digital records and financial transactions as part of the probe.

The primary school recruitment scam has attracted widespread attention due to its scale and the number of job aspirants affected. Several parallel investigations are already underway, making it one of the most closely watched corruption cases in the state.
