Bollywood actor and dancer Nora Fatehi is facing a Rs 3 crore defamation suit filed by aviation company Dunes Aviation over comments she allegedly made about one of its chartered aircraft on social media.
The civil lawsuit has been filed before a court in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, with the company accusing Fatehi of making “derogatory” and “reckless” remarks that it says damaged its reputation and affected its business. The case is scheduled to come up before Senior Civil Judge R Agarwal on September 25.
The dispute centres on videos Fatehi shared after travelling on a Dunes Aviation aircraft. In the posts, she allegedly described the plane using terms such as “toy plane” and “Lego airplane”. The aviation company has objected strongly to those comments, arguing that they created a negative impression about its aircraft and the services it provides.
According to Dunes Aviation, the remarks were not simply an unflattering opinion about a flight experience. The company claims they had consequences for its commercial reputation, particularly because the comments were made publicly on social media and could be viewed by a large audience.
The company has alleged that its bookings declined by around 15 to 20 per cent following the controversy. It has linked the alleged fall in business to the impact of Fatehi’s posts and is seeking Rs 3 crore in damages for what it describes as reputational and commercial losses.
Dunes Aviation has also sought removal of the posts from social media, saying that leaving the content online could cause further damage to its business and reputation.
The case highlights how quickly a celebrity’s social media comments can turn into a commercial and legal dispute. A casual remark made to followers can reach millions of people within hours, potentially affecting companies or brands mentioned in the content.
The aviation company has argued that Fatehi’s comments were particularly damaging because they related directly to the aircraft and, by extension, the quality and credibility of its charter services. Dunes Aviation has described the remarks as irresponsible and has maintained that they went beyond a simple expression of dissatisfaction.
The aircraft at the centre of the dispute has been identified as a Cessna Citation CJ2. According to the details cited in reports on the lawsuit, Fatehi travelled on the aircraft during a Mumbai-Jaipur flight and recorded videos from inside it.
The controversy appears to have begun with her reaction to the aircraft rather than with a formal complaint about the flight itself. Her posts subsequently attracted attention online, bringing the comments to a much wider audience.
For Dunes Aviation, that public reach is an important part of its argument. The company says its reputation depends heavily on customer confidence, particularly in the charter aviation business where clients pay for private travel and expect a certain level of service.
The company has therefore sought financial compensation through the defamation proceedings. Its Rs 3 crore claim reflects the scale of the business and reputational loss it says followed the actor’s comments.
At this stage, however, the allegations remain part of the company’s lawsuit and have not been established as facts by a court. The legal proceedings will determine whether Fatehi’s remarks amounted to defamation and whether the aviation company can establish the losses it claims.
The case also raises wider questions about the relationship between celebrities and businesses in the age of social media. Actors and influencers frequently share their experiences with hotels, airlines, restaurants and other services. While such posts can be valuable personal recommendations, negative comments can also have an immediate commercial impact when they come from a high-profile public figure.
Fatehi, who has built a large public profile through Bollywood films, dance performances, music videos and television appearances, has not been reported as having accepted the aviation firm’s allegations. The legal process will now provide an opportunity for both sides to present their positions.
The court is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the social media posts, the nature of the comments, their reach and the losses claimed by Dunes Aviation.
The company is seeking not only monetary compensation but also removal of the disputed content. Its claim that bookings fell by 15 to 20 per cent will also be an important part of the dispute if it seeks to establish a direct link between the posts and its alleged business losses.
A celebrity’s comments about a private flight has now developed into a legal battle involving defamation, social media, celebrity endorsements, charter aviation and business reputation.
The Rs 3 crore case against Nora Fatehi is likely to draw attention not only because of the actor involved, but also because it underlines the growing legal and commercial consequences of what public figures say online.
