Shalini turns producer with Dare Devil

Sreeleela, Unni Mukundan join Ajith’s film as Adhik Ravichandran begins production

Ajith Kumar’s upcoming film Dare Devil has officially begun its journey, bringing together a new ensemble cast and marking an important milestone for his family. The film was launched with a traditional puja ceremony in Chennai on Monday, November 2. While Ajith was absent from the event, his wife Shalini attended as the producer, making her debut in film production with the project.

Directed by Adhik Ravichandran, Dare Devil is the filmmaker’s second collaboration with Ajith after the 2025 action entertainer Good Bad Ugly. Shalini is backing the film under the banner Bravehearts Production LLP. The launch ceremony offered the first public glimpse of several actors associated with the project, including Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan and Telugu actress Sreeleela.

The event was attended by members of the cast and crew, with Anirudh Ravichander, Radhakrishnan Parthiban, Prabhu, Sunil and Redin Kingsley also present. Actress Serena was among those spotted at the ceremony and is expected to play an important role. A muhurat shot was filmed with Sreeleela, while Shalini gave the first clap, marking the formal beginning of the production.

Ajith could not make it to the puja as he was in Dubai, according to reports. The actor is expected to join the team when the principal shooting schedule begins in Hyderabad on November 12. The initial schedule is expected to cover a substantial portion of the film, after which the team is likely to move to Bangkok and Malaysia for further filming.

Unni Mukundan’s addition has attracted particular attention. The Malayalam actor, known for films such as Marco, is set to play a significant role in the Ajith-starrer. Reports indicate that his character will be powerful, although the makers have not revealed the full details of the role. His casting also strengthens the film’s reach across industries, bringing a prominent Malayalam performer into a major Tamil project.

Sreeleela’s presence has generated interest too. The actress has been associated with the project for some time and is expected to play a key character. Her role has not been fully disclosed, and the team has not confirmed whether she will be paired opposite Ajith. The ensemble also includes veteran performers Parthiban and Prabhu, along with Sunil and Redin Kingsley. The makers are yet to announce the characters played by the supporting cast.

For Shalini, Dare Devil marks a new chapter after a long association with the film industry as an actor. Her move into production places her in a different role behind the camera, as she takes charge of backing a project led by her husband. The production banner, Bravehearts Production LLP, will make its feature-film debut with the film. Her presence at the launch, and the first clap for the muhurat shot, made the occasion especially significant.

The film also reunites Ajith with composer Anirudh Ravichander. The two have worked together on projects including Vedalam, Vivegam and Vidaamuyarchi. Anirudh is composing the music for Dare Devil, adding another familiar creative partnership to the project. The technical crew includes cinematographer Abinandhan Ramanujam, editor Vijay Velukutty and stunt choreographer Supreme Sundar.

Adhik has described the film as different in tone from Good Bad Ugly. He has also said that Ajith suggested the title Dare Devil, which the director sees as a tribute to the actor’s willingness to perform daring stunts on screen and his passion for motorsport. The film’s story and genre details remain under wraps, but the title has already prompted curiosity among fans.

Good Bad Ugly, released in 2025, was a successful collaboration between Ajith and Adhik and became the actor’s highest-grossing film. Their reunion has therefore raised expectations, even as the director is looking to take the next project in a different direction. Dare Devil also marks Ajith’s return to film production after spending considerable time on his racing commitments. He has taken part in international motorsport events, including endurance races, over the past year.

Alongside the film, Ajith is awaiting the release of Gladiators, a documentary centred on his motorsport journey. Directed by Vijay, the project will explore the actor’s life and experiences as a racer, with music by GV Prakash Kumar. Its release date has not yet been announced.

With the launch ceremony completed, attention now shifts to the Hyderabad schedule and the film’s expanding cast. The makers have kept the plot and character details closely guarded, leaving fans to wait for official announcements. For now, Dare Devil brings together Ajith, Adhik, Anirudh and a cross-industry cast, while giving Shalini her first major opportunity as a film producer.
